Real estate photography in Chamonix: why do agencies settle for “cheap” photos despite luxury properties?
When we talk about real estate photography in Chamonix, we immediately picture exceptional chalets, high-end apartments with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, second homes with luxurious finishes. Here in Haute-Savoie, the properties on offer often flirt with six or even seven figures. So why, within this premium market, do we still see so many listings illustrated with soulless photos, taken in a hurry with a smartphone worn to the bone?
As a professional real estate photographer in Chamonix, I can only note a phenomenon as sad as it is absurd: houses at 1.5 million euros, apartments at 700,000 euros, and estate agencies that do not even invest in a decent photo shoot. It is a bit as if the seller of a €400,000 Ferrari said to himself: “ Meh, I will take two or three blurry snaps with my phone and that is that! Anyway, buyers will not see the difference. ” Are we upside down or what?

Comfortable commissions, but almost zero return on investment
Estate agencies generally receive commissions of roughly 5 to 7% on the sale of a property. Translation: on a €700,000 apartment, the agency can pocket between €35,000 and €50,000. At that level, can we really talk about “ not having the budget ” for professional photos? It is total nonsense, a stinginess that borders on a joke. Some agents even request quotes from professional photographers, then do not even bother to reply with a simple “ no, thank you ”. Radio silence is their answer. Politeness and professionalism have definitely deserted the ranks!
The importance of visual quality in real estate sales
Several studies (particularly in the United States, but the observations also apply in France) show that well-photographed properties sell faster. On average, a well-presented listing outperforms its competitors, with more viewings, better positioning on online platforms, and often a higher sale price or at least a preserved one. Is that not logical? The human eye is above all attracted by high-quality, clear, bright and carefully framed visuals. Professional photos can significantly reduce time on the market and increase the number of real viewings, and therefore of motivated potential buyers.
In Chamonix, a market where people buy “ the art of living ” as much as the walls, real estate photography should be at the top of the priorities. For the buyer, it is a sign of seriousness and quality. For the seller, it is the certainty of showing off the property, presenting it at its best, and even of having a visual record of the condition of the home for insurance purposes or before renovation work.
A brand image at stake
By neglecting the quality of visuals, estate agencies shoot themselves in the foot. How can they claim to be a serious, high-end player while offering blurry, poorly framed and often underexposed photos? Buyers are not fooled. An agency that “ skimps ” on photography comes across as a company incapable of investing a few hundred euros in a professional service. On the contrary, those who bet on beautiful images strengthen their reputation and gain credibility and customer satisfaction.

A call for change
It is time for agencies, sellers and even buyers to demand a level of quality consistent with the value of the properties sold. In Chamonix, in Haute-Savoie, as elsewhere, real estate photography is a profitable investment. A fine series of shots, taken by a professional real estate photographer – like me, Julien Zannoni, based in Chamonix – brings a real plus, at every level.
If you are looking to sell or buy a property in Chamonix, remember: the eye of the future buyer is fed first by visuals. Offer it something worthy of the standing of the place. Investing in quality real estate photography is a bit like putting premium fuel in a Rolls-Royce. No prestige seller would skip the impeccable presentation of their product, so why would we do so in luxury real estate?
